DAIRY FARMING TRAINING COURSE ORGANIZED FOR YOUTH BY KVK, LANGROYA, DISTT S.B.S. NAGAR

To encourage young generation to adopt dairy farming as an occupation, a one day motivational training program was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Langroya, District Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar on 19/04/2019. Dr. Manoj Sharma, Associate Director (Trg) KVK Langroya Welcomed the trainees and encouraged the young generation to adopt dairy farming as full time occupation. To get a hands on practice, the trainees visited Sidhu Dairy Farm at Village Saloh of the district for training purpose. Dr Tejbeer Singh, Assistant professor (Animal Science) told the trainees about various breeds of cows and buffaloes, breeding pattern and points to be kept in mind while selection of animals. The trainees were told about preparation of silage, mixing of ration, grouping of animals according to their age, lactation and reproductive status. He also told about vaccination schedule for dairy animals. Dr Gurinder Singh Demonstrator (Animal Science) showed the trainees silage making techniques, record keeping and housing of dairy animals. They were also shown liquid nitrogen cylinder for storing good quality semen and its importance in profitable dairy farming. The trainees paid a visit to milking parlor and were shown machine milking method being used. They were shown both pre and post teat dip technique for prevention and control of mastitis. The trainees were surprised to see an indigenous method being used for control of flies and mosquitoes using mosquito repellent devices (like Goodnight, All out etc.) which are used for domestic purpose. In the end of the training session Dr. Manoj Sharma again addressed the trainees and assured the trainees about any kind of assistance needed for success in dairy farming in future.
