Communication Centre, headed by Dr. T.S. Riar, Additional Director Communication has the real purpose of providing 'on time' scientific knowledge and information at the doorstep of farmers through print and electronic media. Communication Centre also develops the linkages with various agriculture and related institutions throughout the globe.

Communication Centre functions through the coordination of following sections/ units, which perform/ hold following activities/ features:

Editorial Section:

  • Publishes bulletins on wide variety of subjects and issues
  • Publishes Journal of Research, University Reports, Handbook, Calendar, etc
  • Publishes Changi Kheti (Punjabi) and Progressive Farming (English) – highly popular, farmer-friendly monthly magazine

Business Section:

  • Sells and circulates farm literature published by the University
  • Sells PAU publications through counters at the Centre and in the Directorate of Extension Education; through KVKs; and through network of distributors and agents across the Punjab and adjoining states.
  • Procures advertisements for PAU publications
  • Dispatches publications to thousands of subscribers

Art, Exhibition and Photo Section:

  • Prepares charts, murals and exhibits on teaching, research and extension activities for display at important functions like Kisan Melas at PAU campus and at KVKs
  • Oversees the exhibitions put up at various places in the campus and at outstations
  • Supplies display material to different departments for academic and extension activities
  • Maintains photo-bank to illuminate publications and progress of PAU over the period of time

TV & Radio Section:

  • Caters to needs of Doordarshan Kendra and All India Radio, Jalandhar, and makes documentaries on PAU activities and functions
  • Provides audio and audio-visual coverage to all the departments of the University
  • Records interviews of scientists for telecast and broadcast
  • Provides service and guidance to the visiting TV and Radio units

Reference and Training Section:

  • Inserts press releases and advertisements in the newspapers and magazines on demand from departments
  • Supplies farm features to language newspapers and provides feedback on various facets of agricultural and rural development to the authorities, departments and scientists concerned
  • Keeps record of developments and important events in agriculture and related fields for reference and use of faculty, students and researchers

Media & Publicity Section:

  • Facilitates quick dissemination of news, features, photographs and articles towards print and electronic media
  • Works-out schedules for press meetings, conferences, individual interviews and 'shoots' with the Vice-Chancellor and other functionaries of PAU
  • Keeps close liaison with All India Radio (for 'Dehati' programme) and Doordarshan Kendra, Jalandhar (for 'Krishi Darshan')
  • Prepares PAU resource personnel for AIR and DD talks, group discussions and even 'live' programmes

Desk Top Publishing Section:

  • Responsible for design and layout of all publications- big or small, booklet or brochure, poster or directory
  • Ensures uniformity in publications, oversees correct use of design details and colour scheme in the University insignia and even correctness of the print line
  • Looks after all pre-press preparations before a publication goes to the press
  • Archives digital files of designed and published works in CDs

PAU Printing Press Section:

  • Undertakes all important printing works of the University with the use of two off-set and letter-press machines
  • Gives final shape to publications at the binding sub-section in the Press

Public Relations Section:

  • Keeps tab on visitors, commoners and very important visitors- as PAU being the pioneer of Green Revolution is visited by eminent figures all over the world
  • Conducts visits to PAU farms and laboratories; organizes meeting with officials and scientists; and arranges presentation of farm literature to the visiting dignitaries
