Drip Irrigation

Drip irrigation is frequent and precise application of irrigation water and nutrients directly near the root zone of the plants.

  • Drip Irrigation helps saves 40-50% of water as compared to conventional method of irrigation
  • Lower energy is required to operate the system
  • Higher yield are obtained
  • Uniform and better quality of produce
  • Help increase fertilizer use efficiency and as such results in economic use of fertilizers
  • Less weed growth
  • Extended use of brackish water for irrigation
  • Labour saving
  • Suitable to all types of land terrain
  • Minimum diseases and pest infestation and hence lower use of chemicals.
Crops suitable for drip irrigation system
Vegetables Tomato, Chilly, Capsicum, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Onion, Okra, Brinjal, Bitter Gourd, Sponge Gourd, Cucumber, Peas etc.
Fruits Kinnow, Guava, Mango, Peach, Litchi, Papaya etc.
Cash Crops Sugarcane, Cotton, strawberry etc.
Flowers Rose, Gerbera, carnation etc.
Cereal crops Wheat, Maize

Green House

Green houses are framed structures covered with UV stabilized transparent or translucent plastic film to grow crops under partial or fully controlled environmental conditions to get maximum productivity and quality produce. 

  • High productivity per unit area.
  • Crops can be grown in any season of the year depending on the demand and market.
  • Excellent quality produce, free from any blemishes.
  • Easy to protect the crops against pest and diseases and extreme climatic conditions.

Selection of site

  • The site for the poly house should be well drained & fairly shadow free.
  • It should be away from the obstruction (East, West and South direction) at least three times the height of the obstruction.
  • Windbreaks should be at least 30 m away on north and west side to minimize the adverse affect of wind.

Orientation

  1. Single span : east-west
  2. Multi span : north-south (gutter)

Crops suitable for cultivation in poly/green house

  1. Capsicum, tomato, cucumber, leafy vegetables etc.
  2. Flowers such as Rose, Gerbera, Lillium etc.
