DEPARTMENT OF FRUIT SCIENCE PAU ORGANIZED FIELD DAY ON HORTICULTURAL CROPS AT GANGIAN

The Department of Fruit Science, PAU, organized Field Day on “Cultivation and Management of Horticultural crops” at MS Randhawa Fruit Research Station Gangian on 28th February, 2019. S Kulwant Singh Ahlluwalia, Member Board of Management PAU was the chief guest and the field day was presided over by Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor PAU Ludhiana. At the outset, Dr Harminder Singh, Head Department of Fruit Science welcomed the guests, farmers, farm women and also highlighted the activities of the station. Dr Dhillon discussed the importance of horticultural crops for increasing productivity and conserving environment. He advised the farmers to remain associated with the university and take the benefits of the valuable information delivered by the experts of PAU. The Chief Guest, S Kulwant Singh Ahlluwalia emphasized on integrated pest management, intercropping and marketing intelligence. Dr. Amrik Singh Basra and Dr. Bhupinder Singh Basra, renowned horticulturists talked about the problems in marketing of horticultural crops and acknowledged the contribution of staff of FRS Gangian and KVK Hoshiarpur in helping the farming community of district Hoshiarpur. Technical lectures regarding the production of healthy nursery plants, improved varieties, production and protection technologies of fruit, vegetable and floriculture crops and their post harvest handling were delivered by the experts of PAU. More than 400 farmers, farmwomen and students participated in this Field day. Exhibition stalls related to improved varieties of fruits, vegetables, flowers, farm machinery and self help groups were displayed. Seeds of kharif crops, vegetable kits, fruit plants, mineral mixture, and technical literature were also made available for the benefit of the farmers on this occasion. Dr. Maninder Singh Bons, Deputy Director (Training), KVK Hoshiarpur managed the stage. In the end, Dr Deedar Singh Bhatti, ADEE, PAU Ludhiana thanked all the guests for gracing the occasion. He also gave information regarding PAU kisan app and PAU toll free number to the farmers
