Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ropar under the guidance of Directorate of Extension Education, PAU, Ludhiana and ICAR-ATARI, Ludhiana, organized a field day on Lentil at village Brahmpur, block Anandpur Sahib. The field day was conducted in context to showcasing the performance of FLDs laid out under Cluster Frontline demonstrations programme on pulses. About 50 farmers of village Brahmpur and nearby villages participated in the programme. Dr. Sanjeev Ahuja, Assistant Professor (Horticulture) welcomed the farmers and discussed with them regarding the management practices for profitable cultivation of lentil crop and urged the farmers to grow oilseeds and pulses. He also motivated the farmers for cultivation of summer vegetables and urged them to grow fruit and vegetable nutrition garden to meet out the nutritional requirement of their families. Dr Opinder Singh Sandhu, Assistant Professor (Soil Science), discussed with them regarding the use of biofertilizers as seed treatment and pest management in lentil. He also discussed with the farmers about the importance of soil testing and urged the farmers for soil testing and, judicious use of nitrogenous fertilizers. Dr. Avtar Singh, Agriculture Officer, Anandpur Sahib discussed with farmers regarding various Govt. schemes for the farmer’s welfare. The farmers gave feedback on the very good performance of this lentil variety. The farmers along with the KVK scientists visited the lentil field of farmer Ashok Kumar. Farmers showed a keen interest in the discussion and appreciated the good crop stand crop. On this occasion, insecticide was distributed to the farmers, so that they can control the pests attacking on their Lentil crop. At the end, Darshan Singh, progressive farmer from village Brahmpur proposed the vote of thanks to the scientists and farmers.
