DELEGATION FROM UNIVERSITY OF CALGARY, CANADA VISITS PAU

A five member Canadian delegation headed by Dr Janaka Ruwanpura, Vice-Provost International, Dr Anil Mehrotra, Professor and Director CEERE, Dr Baljit Singh, Dean Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Dr Bill Rosehart, Dean Schulich School of Engineering and MsUli Ng, and Regional Manager Asia-Pacific visited Punjab Agricultural University on 11th February, to identify possible areas of collaboration in research and teaching. Ashok Kumar, Dean College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, welcomed the delegation and presented an overview of the various departments of the College and infrastructure available for conducting research and practical teaching in various fields of agricultural engineering and also highlighted the possible area of collaboration among both the universities.

Dr Janaka Ruwanpura deliberated on strengthening institutional ties and identifying focus areas for research collaborations and developing beneficial working relationships. Dr Bill Rosehart gave an overview of programs at the Schulich School of Engineering and expressed his interest in conducting high impact research in collaboration with PAU. Dr Anil Mehrotra suggested water quality, water quantity and solid waste management as common research areas. Water, environment, solid waste management and application of sensor-based technologies in various disciplines of agricultural engineering emerged as focus areas during the interaction of scientists from the two universities. Dr Baljit Singh emphasized on enhancing the quality of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level through teaching workshops and faculty exchange programmes.

Dr Baldev Singh Dhillon, Vice-Chancellor, PAU, highlighted that Punjab Agricultural University, a pioneer in agricultural research in India, welcomed national and international collaborations in areas of mutual interest. He stressed that international exposure of scientists is of immense importance to generate new ideas and thoughts. Dr Satish Gupta coordinated the interactive session and Dr Ashok Kumar thanked the Canadian delegation for visiting PAU to explore opportunities for collaboration in identified areas of teaching and research.
