The Department of Extension Education, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), organized farmers’ mobilization camp in the village Kanech of district Ludhiana. In all, 50 farmers attend the camp which was held under the project “Farmers’ Livelihood Security and Environmental Sustainability through Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) in Punjab.”
An agriculture expert Dr Lopamudra Mohapatra, while inaugurating the programme, emphasized on proper management of fertilizer in wheat. She also highlighted problems regarding overuse of fertilizer and use of organic as well as biofertilizer in crops. She motivated the farmers to come forward to adopt different INM practices in upcoming crop season. Later, she discussed demonstration criteria with the farmers.
Dr R.S. Gill, Extension Specialist, Department of Soil Science, informed about proper manner of chemical use in crop and use of PAU Leaf Color Chart to know about requirement of urea in wheat and other crops. He also shed light on how crop productivity is affected by the sole use of chemical fertilizer.
Dr Jupinder Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology, told the farmers about the benefit of biofertilizers and conducted a method demonstration regarding proper use and application of biofertilizer (Consortium) in wheat. |
