AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON CROP RESIDUE MANAGEMENT FOR MOBILIZATION OF COLLEGE STUDENTS BY KVK, BATHINDA ON 08.10.18

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bathinda conducted an awareness programme for mobilization of college students to curb the practice of paddy residue burning at Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo on 08.10.2018.

Dr. J S Brar, Associate Director, KVK, Bathinda gave a brief overview of the activities of KVK. He highlighted the harmful effects of burning of crop residue burning and laid stress on the proper management of paddy residue through the use of farm machinery. He also informed that management of paddy residue is of utmost importance at this moment and stressed upon the proactive role to be played by college students in spreading this message.

Dr. Ajmer singh Sidhu Dean College of Agriculture, Talwandi Sabo exhorted the students to curb the practice of paddy residue burning and lauded the efforts of KVK for creating awareness regarding the same.

Dr. Gurmeet Singh Dhiilon , Assistant Professor (Extension Education), KVK informed the students in detail about the recommended paddy residue management technologies. He also informed about the various nutrients available in the paddy residue and their importance for the soil health.

Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur Brar Associate Prof. (Home Science) informed that prabhatpheries, competitions, slogan writing at common places in villages, nukkad nataks, demonstrations, trainings etc. are effective source to create awareness regarding crop residue management among the rural peoples of the district.

Dr. Amardeep Kour Kaur(A.P. Horticulture), emphasized on the importance of Kitchen gardening and use of straw in mushroom cultivation.

KVK, Bathinda also conducted Nukad natak, prabhatpheries, debate, essay writing and painting competition for the college students for sensitization regarding the harmful effects of paddy residue to the environment, soil health, human health and society. A rally was also organized by the college students to create awareness for shunning the practice of paddy residue burning.

In the end, Dr. J S Brar thanked Dr. Ajmer singh Sidhu, college staff and the students for providing wholehearted support in making the programme successful.
