The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sangrur (Kheri) of Punjab Agricultural University conducted a seven days vocational training course on “Bakery and confectionery” for the farm women and rural youth in which 30 trainees from six villages participated.

In the introductory session, Dr. Mandeep Singh, Associate Director (Training) extended a warm welcome to the participants and acquainted them about the importance and scope of bakery and confectionery as an enterprise. He further added that the bakery and confectionery enterprise is gaining popularity in rural Punjab and there is a lot of scope for rural youth in this enterprise for income generation. So, after learning first-hand experience in bakery and confectionery, trainees may take it up to commercial scale to supplement their family income.

Dr. Monika Choudhary, Assistant Professor (Home Science) conducted the training course and delivered technical lectures on basic concept of bakery and confectionery. She imparted practical demonstrations and hand-on practice on the preparation of various bakery and confectionery products viz. Caramel cake, date and walnut cake, pineapple upside down cake, eggless cake, cup cakes, coconut castles, muffins, chocolates, gujia, coconut barfi and milk cake. She also provided useful information on important aspects pertaining to packaging, labelling, and marketing of bakery products.
