WINNERS OF VARIOUS COMPETITIONS AWARDED PRIZES AT PAU KISAN MELA

Winning farmers and farm women, who participated in various competitions, were given away prizes during Kisan Mela at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). Dr Sujay Rakshit, Director, ICAR- Indian Institute of Maize Research, Ludhiana, distributed the prizes and certificates among winners.

In crop produce competition, among vegetables, Rajwinder Kaur (Sangrur), Tirath Singh (Sangrur), Satvir Singh (Bathinda), Amarjit Singh (Faridkot) and Balvir Singh (Fatehgarh Sahib) won first prize for bitter gourd, chilli, ram tori and ghiyya kaddu, respectively. In addition, Gurpreet Singh (Fazilka) and Jatinder Singh (Gurdaspur) bagged first prize for cotton and sugarcane, respectively.

In fruits, Harneej Kaur (Fatehgarh Sahib), Jugra Dhingra (Fazilka), Nachhatar Singh (Bathinda), Bahadur Singh (Fatehgarh Sahib) and Daljit Singh (Fazilka) bagged first prize for lemon, mitha, malta, grape fruit and papaya, respectively. Jinder Singh (Ropar) and Raghubir Singh (Sangrur) won first prize for amla.

In flowers, Jagpreet Singh (Amritsar) and Sukhdev Singh (Bathinda) got first prize for marigold and rose, respectively.

In home science competitions, first prizes were won by Charanjit Kaur (Moga) for preparation of nutritious recipes using oilseeds, Ranjit Singh (Moga) for drawing on save environment, Balbir Kaur (Jalandhar) for crochet and Harjit Kaur (Ludhiana) for preparation of items using waste material. Baba Dekha Self-help Group, Samrala, was awarded first prize among women entrepreneurs.

Among PAU stalls, the Department of Entomology, Department of Vegetable Science and Department of Agronomy were awarded first, second and third prize, respectively. In field demonstrations, the Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics, Department of Fruit Science, and Department of Farm Machinery and Power Engineering, got first, second and third prize, respectively. The Farm Advisory Service Centre (FASC), Sangrur; FASC, Patiala and FASC, Amritsar were given first, second and third prize, respectively for Punjab Naujawan Kisan Sanstha.

In the category of farm machinery and implements, Sonalika, International Tractors Limited (Hoshiarpur) and Class Agricultural Machinery Private Limited (Faridabad) bagged first prize for tractors and combines, respectively. The BCS India Private Limited (Ludhiana) bagged first prize for reapers, threshers and self propelled equipment, while Land Force, Dashmesh Mechanical Works (Sangrur) won first prize for tractor driven implements. Harnoor Engineering Works (Moga) got first prize for electric motors, engines and pumping sets, whereas Raja Enterprises (Sangrur) bagged first prize for tools and sprayers. Jain Irrigation (Chandigarh) won first prize for water saving tools and machines, while IFFCO (Chandigarh) got first prize for fertilizers. Bayer Crop Sciences Limited (Mumbai) bagged first prize for pesticides, whereas K.C. Marketing Company (Ludhiana) got first prize for agro-processing machinery.
