'DIPLOMA IN AGRICULTURAL EXTENSION SERVICES FOR INPUT DEALERS' IS INAUGURATED AT PAMETI

One-year Diploma in Agricultural Extension Services for Input Dealers (DAESI) was inaugurated by the chief guest Dr JS Bains, Director, Agriculture, Punjab at Punjab Agricultural Management & Extension Training Institute (PAMETI), PAU Campus, Ludhiana on 15 September, 2018. Dr Rajbir Brar, Director, ATARI, Dr DS Bhatti, Additional Director Extension, PAU and Sh Paramjit Singh, Deputy Registrar, Department of Cooperation, Ludhiana also graced the occasion.

Dignitaries like Head of the Departments from PAU, Assistant Registrars from Department of Cooperation, Ludhiana and Project Directors-ATMA, Ludhiana were also present at the event.

Dr H S Dhaliwal, Director, PAMETI first welcomed the Chief Guest, Dr JS Bains by presenting a bouquet of flowers. In his welcome address, he extended a warm welcome to all the participants and shared the objectives of this one-year diploma. He also requested all the participants, who enrolled for this diploma, to discuss the practical problems with concerned experts during different sessions, so that right information to the farmers can be disseminated.

Rupinder Kaur, Deputy Director-HRM, PAMETI while explaining the objective of the programme, said that Agri-Input Dealers are a primary source of information to the farming community, besides the supply of inputs. But majority of these dealers do not have formal agricultural education. Therefore, National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Ministry of Agri & Farmers’ Welfare, GoI has launched this diploma, which will help the dealers in building technical competency & facilitate them to serve the farmers better.

Dr RK Kalra (Former HOD, Ext Edu, PAU), Facilitator for DAESI programme said that overwhelming response has been received from Department of Cooperation, Ludhiana and large number of staff from Coop. Societies has registered themselves for the programme, which will ultimately benefit the Coop. societies and farmers associated. She said that the technical information will be delivered through Contact Classes and field visits by Agricultural Experts & Practitioners on Sundays or Market holidays for 48 days spread over a year.

Dr JS Bains congratulated PAMETI for starting this programme and lauded its efforts for up gradation of technical competency of input dealers. He exhorted the need for more such programmes in other districts also.

The ceremony was formally concluded with vote of thanks by Dr H S Dhaliwal.
