PAU AGRONOMIST GETS FELLOW AWARD

Dr Hari Ram, Senior Agronomist, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has been honoured with Fellow Award in Resource Management by the Society for Advancement of Wheat and Barley Research (SAWBAR) Karnal during the 57th All India Wheat and Barley Research Workers’ Meet, held at Birsa Agricultural University, Ranchi, Jharkhand, from August 24-26, 2018.

Dr Ram has an outstanding academic background. He joined PAU as Assistant Professor (Agronomy) in 1997 and was promoted to Senior Agronomist in 2012. He has developed technology for enriching the grain zinc in wheat through foliar application of zinc for nutritional security in the state. He has also been instrumental in the development of 22 technologies including irrigation management; zero tillage; nutrient management and weed control in wheat, barley and different pulse crops, which have been recommended to the farmers of Punjab. He has developed agronomy of 26 varieties of wheat, barley and pulses released at the state as well as national level.

He has published more than 180 publications including 91 research papers in reputed national and international journals, two review papers, six book chapters, 31 proceeding papers and 50 popular articles. Presently, he is also serving as Zonal Councilor of Society for Advancement of Wheat and Barley Research, Karnal; Member of Board of Editors of Society for Scientific Development in Agriculture and Technology, Meerut and referee of several journals. Dr Ram has also visited USA, France, Brazil, Thailand, Turkey and Germany for presentation of his research in conferences and project meetings. He is a recipient of five awards and honours from institutes of Indian Council of Agricultural Research and professional societies.
