PAU ESTABLISHES MINI-FOREST AT PATHLAWA VILLAGE

The Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), has established a mini forest on a private land, located at village Pathlawa, district Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. An NRI family envisaged to plant traditional trees on farmland in memory of their father Late Sardar Jagat Singh Tamber. The Tamber family approached PAU for technical guidance and planting material. The Department of Forestry and Natural Resources in collaboration with the Roundglass Foundation and Tamber family planned and executed the plantation drive. About 200 plants of traditional trees, fruit trees and shrubs belonging to 24 different species were planted on a half acre land provided by the Tamber family.

The programme was organised by Dr GPS Dhillon, Head, Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, PAU, wherein he emphasised the importance of mini forests for the conservation of native flora and fauna. He also assured full technical guidance in the future for the survival of the trees.

Sardar Mohinder Singh Tamber welcomed the guests and discussed his vision to develop his village. The programme started with the Ardas and the members of the NRI families planted one sapling each.

Sh Romanpreet Singh and Dr Taranvir Singh of Roundglass Foundation, and Sh Iqbal Singh Atwal from PAU department were involved in the layout plan and the plantation drive. The plants of tradition trees like bahera, toon, tahli, siris, mahagony, kikar, jaman, kachnar, sukhchain, lasoora, neem, arjan, Burma dek, amaltas, reetha, bael, mango, guava, amla, suhanjana, etc. were planted. The programme was successfully organized in the presence of the community members, employees and village Sarpanch Harpal Singh and panchayat members Tarsem Singh and Kulwinder Singh.

Later, Sardar Piyush Batra proposed a vote of thanks.
